lyrics
[Intro]
Delving into mystic texts, systems of sadistic hex
And out-of-body travelling unfathomable distances
Crystals, sex, sigils, decks, triple six sickle sects
Close your eyelids, cross them over with a big old X
Turn the lights off, to ward off the night moths
And make sure the door locked and/or be a warlock
It’s quite soft, coil yourself in sheets and drift to rem
You wouldn’t wanna miss your sleep again
[Verse 1]
I had a dream I was a serpent, crawling on the prairie
Scales colored by the pale blue blotches on my belly
I was following a smell, I licked the air and I tasted it
A cat to a canary, it was scared, I was dangerous
And then it darted off, hauled ass into the tall grass
Caught a glimpse of it, a large mouse, or a small rat
I could feel my atavistic impulses to follow it
To lie in wait, to lash at it instinctively and swallow it
The hunger was palpable, yum, this lunch is a valuable one
I slithered after it, the critter munching on calcium crumbs
I let my tongue work as a biological GPS
Nigh-on-impossibly methodical, sly and devious
Hisss, I coil around a nearby branch
The rodent doesn’t notice me up here and there’s my chance
My fangs extend, rise up to strike
To bite, to blind, deny the fight or flight, to dine, turn blood to wine
[Bridge]
It squirmed for a time but I cleft in
Red leaked deep from its neck then it went limp
My venom had rendered it paralyzed
Tempted, I stared in its helplessly barren eyes
[Verse 2]
The warm blood on my fangs, as they moved
To retract back into grooves, had me conclude
That in fact, the prey had been a mouse, not a rat
What a catch, it was fat and intact, I approved
I unhinged my jaw and began slow
Swallowing the like the critter like my maw was a black hole
My digestive system kicked into gear
And the still alive rodent, likely prickling with fear
The last sunlight it saw was gone, I shut my jaws
Basked in the Monday dawn, glad it was not my loss
I settled on a rock that the sun shone on
Hold on, how come I felt danger there and no calm?
Suddenly a gust of air hit me, I was lifted high
Wings beat, talons dug into my skin and slit my eyes
I jolted up, the dream had felt too realistic
And I wondered if I was on my way to being a mystic
I got up from my bed and went to wash my face
And wondered why my mouth had such awful taste
I spat into sink and gasped at the clump of blood
And mouse hairs scattered in the midst of it, what the fuck?
